In social networks, the case of a Ukrainian DJ who had to flee her country because of the war went viral. The young woman took refuge in Mexico and seeks to settle in the “Riviera Maya” for her work.
Masha Romanenko is a DJ who used to perform on the local circuit in Odessa, in peacetime one of the most popular tourist destinations in Ukraine. Due to the Russian invasion in her country, the clubs closed their doors and Masha was left without a source of income.
For this reason, the young artist was forced to flee abroad, like millions of her compatriots. However, her destination was not Poland or Romania, or even the United States, but Mexico, whose language she does not speak at all.
“Right now I’m in Cancun, but maybe I’ll change to Tulum or Playa del Carmen, since I work as a DJ,” Masha wrote in English in her TikTok video. “I will learn Spanish if I stay and it will be my fourth language.”
In a very prudent way, Masha moved to Cancun, an area that is characterized by its nightlife. In the clubs of the so-called ‘Riviera Maya’, Mexican and foreign tourists enjoy electronic raves, a scene that could accommodate Masha’s talents.
“I managed to get out of Ukraine and arrived in Mexico, but I still have no friends here. I don’t know how to speak Spanish yet. But I want to make new friends with the locals.”
